Religion Gets in the Way of Batik Copyrighting

Solo. Religion was singled out here on Sunday in the manner that the major reason why city officials were having trouble persuading skilled batik designers to put their names to their creations so they could be registered for copyright.

Solo Mayor Joko Widodo warned that if registration with the directorate commander-in-chief of pertaining property at the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights did not occur soon, unique Solo batik motifs could have existence registered by means of another party and the actual creators would decline their claim to them.

“That will cost us in the extreme point,” Joko before-mentioned.

The head of the local Kauman Batik Tourism Group, Gunawan Setiawan, said on Sunday that religion played a significant ingredient in the disinclination of the craftsmen and women to attach their names to their works.

“They believe that one and the other time they make something, it is not they who worked, but it is God who worked through their human body and soul,” Gunawan said. “Being grateful [to God] is sufficient for them.”

The principal part of the Solo trade and form of productive effort office, Joko Pangarso, said copyright registration work had begun finally year, but was constantly held up when it was found a particular batik only had a motif name because the creator declined to attach their own.

“So far only 10 motifs have been successfully included in the list,” he said. “The creators acknowledged their creations but asked for minimal exposure.

“I am apprehensive that other parties might register [the Solo batik motifs] because there are many batik cities in Indonesia. There are Yogyakarta, Pekalongan, Brebes, Madura and other places. Some of Yogya’sitting motifs are almost identical to Solo’s.”

Gunawan, from the tourism assemblage, said that in the present era of global competition, the traditional way of thinking could be exploited by others for profit.

Other countries, he said, have known about this and have already wrongly tried to lay claim to copyright over Indonesian-designed batiks.

“If Malaysia is speedier than us in patenting copyright for some Solo batik motifs, there is little that we can do,” Gunawan said. “We just need [their creators’] names, but it is very difficult.”

Northern Territory. Best Place in the World. Ever.

This may be an unashamedly biased overview of an already generalised topic. However, Australia’s Northern Territory is clearly and obviously the best place in the world, anyone could express you that.

Before it was discovered by a couple of kangaroos a few years remote, there was little more than an empty can of Fosters up here and the occasional pandanus palm. Territorians have since made the mighty NT what it is through hard work and a lot of die-hard bragging. So, unlike some other Viator bloggers, I intend to give you a completely one-eyed account with limited reasoning on why the NT really is the best place in the world.

Cos basically, I feel since you, yes, deep down Jack actually has a heart, and in my caring ways I figure wherefore have people expend loads of time and money just to find audibly that other places aren’t as good when you can hear the conformity to fact – I’ll send you right to the best places rather than this usual beat-around-the-bush style that has you just inhabiting the usual tourist haunts and suspension out with other tourists.

That’session right, my reputation is at stake here, so take it from a local.

Google Maps, You Suck

Apologies for the rude headline. I am hoping somebody at Google Maps will be offended enough to in fact make without this post. And maybe then, Google will finally do something about all the spam infecting Google Maps and Google Local Business listings.

On one faculty, Google Maps is a great tool. Remember MapQuest? Not so much. That’s because Google came onward with a superior mapping application. And then they opened their map API, which introduced the world to the idea of mash-ups. And let’s not forget Google Local and Google Local Business Center, two ways of integrating real-world locations into Google Map results.

So far, so good.  Google makes a kick-ass product (maps) and dominates the world (again).

So why I am for a like reason pissed off?

Sometimes I laugh when I read about spammers abusing the Google Local results; here’s a funny one, do a search on “new york locksmith” and have a look at the map results (or catch here if you’re lazy). Notice anything fishy? Do you really think there are 73,000+ locksmiths in New York? Probably not. Dig into the results more, in that place are some funny listings here, you’ll see what I mean.

I never thought too much about it, and then I read (props as antidote to the link, Suzann) about a guy who’s making a concern as a Google Local spammer. It’sitting an be engaged article, and a scary one.

Why scary? Because he’sitting basically given out the secret for spamming Google’s map results. Not just a little spamming, a lot of spamming! As in, do you want to own the #1 spot on account of “payday loans” in every city in America??? Well, now you can. Just click and he’ll mention one by one you how.

I don’t mind spam as long as it’session limited to casinos, payday loans, porn, Viagara, pet food, and lists of local dentists. But when I see spam hitting close to home, I get pissed. And hither’s the example that drove me over the edge. Funny enough, they’re using the Mail Boxes Etc strategy outlined above.

Google Maps Spam: I hate it

Do a search on “san diego tours” and this is what you see:
